ipad/iphone info to mac desktop/laptop

I usually make appointments and get contact info on my iPhone or iPad. I'd ilke to use iCloud to transfer that info to my desktop and laptop. When I ran tests it appears that info will go from desktop/laptop to iPhone/ipad but not iPhone/ipad to desktop/laptop. What gives? How can I make that happen?
