That show embarrasses me to no end as an American. The sad part is - that really is representative of a portion of the culture up there. :[

Not the America I know. I actually can't think of the name of the show right this second - although I could googly it - but I think they took that circus over to Italy.

"Jersey Shore" I've have never seen the show. I don't know who is on it. Nor would I ever watch it for fear of loosing brain cells.

I don't get why the show is so popular. >_>"

Do I have to? :D Remember reading it in high school.

I reread it about a month ago... either I was far less aware 20some years ago in HS.. or things have gotten that much worse :(

How shocking! The guy seems so stable, patient and tolerant. I refuse to believe this malicious lie!

About 3 years ago, when I also last reread Brave New World.. I need to pick up Stranger in a Strange Land soon.. although maybe I should skip to the chase and read One Dimensional Man and Future Shock again...

That all said, Fahrenheit 451's an afternoon read at least :) Marcuse, not so much

Herbert is interesting, but is a bit idealistic for me. Obviously he has an agenda. I do however think he has some great insights on how silly, and ultimately tragic we denizens of the 20th century are. His observations make alternatives like anarchy or becoming a hermit seem like an appealing alternative to me.

Yeah, Marcuse is a bit of a thicker read than Bradbury. ;)

Absolutely. The Frankfurt School theorists make their political arguments without compunction. That is the essence of critical theory after all. ;)

I like how a discussion of Jersey Shore has somehow lead to a discussion of the Frankfurt School of philosophy.

I can't believe how many people watch that show. It actually bothers me to know that people somehow find it entertaining.

Not that I watch the show, but I think you may need to rearrange your priorities if it bothers you that much. ;)
