Itunes accounts

Is it possible to remove an apple id account from iTunes and combine the purchases/apps and anything else into a @me account. i have a hotmail account that i originally set up with iTunes a couple of years ago but i also have a MobileMe account, I realise that its changed to iCloud now but it is the same account and would like to be only using the @me apple id is this possible ?

You can't merge two Apple IDs, but you can use the .me account as your iCloud account and save your hotmail account to use as your iTunes account like you always have. That way you will have access to all the apps/music/movies that you've bought in the past.

I've seen several recent articles saying that Apple is working on a way to merge multiple accounts that some have set up. I've not seen any clue of time frame.
