how do i change my apple account from one email address to another for imessage?

i was using an old email account when i first set up my phone and itunes and now i want to change it to my new account, but im not exactly sure of how to do that, anyone know?

iTunes

highlight iTunes Store in left side bar
select Account in the right side bar
log in
hit the Edit button next to Apple ID
enter new email address
