Recently I have noticed an arrow-like icon appear in the menu bar (recently in Firefox, but maybe also in other programs). To my eyes it seems like a compass arrow and points to the 1 o'clock position, and that's not where North from where I'm sitting. So, it's not a compass.

Anybody know what it might be?

Would you be able to provide us with a screen shot of that arrow? You can use the (Command + Shift + 4) combination to take capture a certain area of the screen or (Command + Shift + 3) to capture the whole screen, then upload it, and post it here.

Thanks.

What happens when you click it? It's not the 'full-screen' arrow is it? Top right of the window?

I figured out what it is. It shows which apps are using your location.

However, I can only assume that it is not permanent because it only shows up when the app is using it.
