What is this c**p?

Like an idiot I did as instructed by iTunes and ran the install for iOS 5. It froze when 'registering the restore with Apple' and is now dead, stuck in recovery loop mode.

The phone is not jailbroken.

How do I fix it?

thanks

I had the same issue, and this is what I did:

1: Unplug iphone from USB
2: hold power and home button until it powers off
3: press and hold home button while plugging usb back in

it should now boot into recovery mode, and iTunes will prompt to restore.

This will get you back into the try/fail mode of connecting to apple servers to verify...

I did the latest update for my friend's iphone and it went into the recovery loop. I installed reboot and am trying to exit recovery but all I am getting is the apple sign and nothing else.
I did the above
1: Unplug iphone from USB
2: hold power and home button until it powers off
3: press and hold home button while plugging usb back in
and it brought up the iphone cable with the itunes written above.
in itunes it say I have to restore.
If I do the restore will I lose all the contact and info on it?
My friend has not backed up her phone from what she says and I am guess it is not on iCloud.
