Accidentaly Deleted Files

There is an iBook at my school which someone has (accidently) deleted a user and so all of the documents have been lost. Is there any free way to recover the lost files. I know with Windows when files are deleted they are not fully deleted and there is software to get lost files.

Have you gone into the root of the hard disk (/) or double click macintosh HD, then go into the Users folder and then there usually is a folder called Deleted Users where deleted users folder are archived to a disk image?

It should all be there if it was a case of deleted user from the Accounts preference.
