Is it possible to set my preferences so that every time I open up a notebook everything is not expanded? I can't find it anywhere..

What do you mean by "everything is not expanded"? Can you flesh this question out a bit more?

Definitely need more info...or a better/more detailed description of what is desired.

When I use notebook I format each class under one tab in a collapsalbe outline view that is tabbed under using different note levels. Every time I open a class notebook every possible outline is expanded in the entire notebook, instead of being collapsed as they were when I closed the program last. I have to go through and collapse each of the previous class days before I can take notes. I feel like there has to be a setting that allows me to open the program with all of note levels collapsed vs. expanded

Which "View" do you have Word set at when taking notes in class? And how are you saving them as you go along?

The reason I ask is it sounds like you're using the Outline View?
