Utility Software

hello

I am a mac user for about 2-years. Do I need utility software (like Norton) to uninstall software? I always drag an icon to the trash can, but I was told that this is not the right way, or does uninstall software.

Any suggestions are helpful

Dragging an application to the trash is fine if the app does not come with an uninstaller or if there are detailed instructions for uninstalling it. Most apps can be deleted by just dragging them to the trash. There may be small files left behind such as a plist (property list) file, but they do no harm and take up very little space.

Both of the above apps work fairly well to remove all files associated with the app you're deleting.

However, keep in mind what I said above.

Larger applications, such as Office, Acrobat etc are best removed using the Uninstaller. If an application comes with an uninstaller, that should be the first option. No need for any addition commercial software, as AppTrap, another freeware utility, and those listed by chscag do the job.
