Hello,

I'm hoping to be able to recover data from the internal HD of my dead macbook. I have just replaced it with a new MacBook Pro and was planning to take the HD out of the old macbook and connect it (perhaps using a external HD case) to the new MacBook Pro and recover data that way.

Does anyone have any pointers on this? Do I need to purchase some software or should the HD show up as an external HD would?

Thanks in advance.

The first thing I would do is install it in an external USB carrier and attach it to the new MBP as you stated. As long as the hard drive is functional you should able to access the data that way without any special software. And yes, it will mount on the desktop of the new MBP same as any other external drive.
