syncing google contacts with iPhone contacts

Your Mac's Specs
OS 10.5.7, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Lately, when I enter a new contact on my iPhone 4 (with most recent ios), the record does not automatically sync to my Google account as it once did. How do I fix that?
