Steve WAS a hippy. Most hippies (especially creative ones) back then did trip out on LSD, shrooms and smoke marajuana. But that's of course, not proof. I'm pretty sure that you can find quotes somewhere, where he states having used one type of hallucinegen or another. Read the autobiography.

Also, have you ever seen "Pirates of Silicone Valley" ? In the made for tv movie, at one point he was tripping on LSD. Again, not proof, but I'm sure that most of the facts were derived from people whom were close to him and the rest of the ensemble cast..

And besides, what difference would it make to you? Do you really think that smoking marajuana or taking lsd would make someone a bad person? It's all in the context, and things were a LOT different back then. Although I must say, not all things derived from the hippie generation are exactly to my liking...

Don't you know? Everything all us old hippies have done our entire lives has been because of an acid trip in the 60s.

I'm pretty sure that's how we got the song "Muskrat Love"! ;):p

Steve himself admitted to using LSD -- a very, very long time ago. That, along with a number of other life experiences (taking calligraphy in college, eating at the Hare Krishna temple, walking barefoot with a shaved head in an ashram in India) contributed to making him the sort of person who could see "beyond the cubicle" and "think differently."

If you're getting the impression he was a drug addict or something, he most certainly was not. Lots of people try things when they are young that they don't repeat when they get older. When I was a kid, everyone TRIED marijuana. Most people didn't care for it, some did.

I think the mentions of Steve's LSD use are simply trying to tell readers that he was open to trying lots of different experiences when he was young, and that many of them made an impression that served him well in later life. That's all.

Way... way too many specs to list.
I'm just flat-out unsure it's even really relevant.

Other than LSD being illegal to possess after 1970, what does it matter? I'm not in the pro-recreational drug advocate camp, but if he did use acid his use of it appears to have not caused him or those around him injury. This is the first I've heard of Steve Jobs and acid, and it really couldn't change my life any less. It's a mouse fart in a hurricane.

Do I think he was on LSD at the job? Nope. Do I think he did drugs, including LSD, during his life? Yep, he admitted as much.

Here's a hint for you...contrary to what Nancy Reagan, the governement and all the psycobabble in school is trying to tell you, doing some drugs isn't going to turn you into a psychotic baby killer addict fiend any more than having a few beers a week is going to turn into a drunken, wife abusing, pedestrian killing alcoholic. The triggers for that behavior, be they tripped by drugs, alcohol, porn, sniffing glue or watching Oprah Winfrey, are already in your psyche. It's up to you to learn how to control them and learn to enjoy the lighter (and higher) side of life. As my father taught me: Everything in Moderation.

Steve did drugs, it was part of who he was. Doesn't mean he was an addict or that he was high on LSD every time Apple launched a new product. Frankly, he didn't design most, if any, of the products himself. Other very talented people did. Yes, probably all of them did some kind of drugs in their life, perhaps when they designed their products even. He just had the vision to make the greater and the skill to market them shrewdly. Whatever substances he may have taken, they were part of who he was and denying that they were is silly and only deludes yourself. Deal with it, he was human like the rest of us.

So don't be angry when people speak out of ignorance. Educate yourself, the history of Apple and Steve Jobs are public record. Look into them both and you'll find out why Steve was so revered and respected by both those who followed him and those who hate him. His early years are interesting and they involved drugs, it is what it is, he was who he was. All of that together with whatever fire burned inside the man is what helped bring Apple into this world, into our worlds, and made us all fans of them and him. Because of them, and him, each of us here has been changed in some way in our life, hopefully some way for the better. If nothing else, that can be his legacy.

I did a project on him a couple of years ago and I remember a quote that said he experimented with a few drugs.

I heard somewhere that Steve Jobs told Bill Gates that he should have used LSD - that it was the best thing he ever did.

because HE DID and he said himself that it was one of the most important decisions he made in his life.

Sorry you're prude, it's a personal choice. If it bothers you that much, don't use computers (a LOT of computer scientists have used various drugs).

Who really cares? Whether he did or didn't doesn't change the person he was or the products he created. People will always come up with something to say.
