Usually i would click the window button then activity and double click the flv. Doing that now just opens the video in a new window.

How do I save the youtube video on safari running lion.

I use FastestTube. Works for Safari, Opera and Chrome for sure.

Chas_M recommended it to me and I have never looked back since.

I use cmd-option a and then find the video file and double click it - and download it that way.

I use the ClickToPlugin extension (not its little brother, ClickToFlash), since it's already installed on my Mac to block flash.
To download a video right-click on the video itself and select Download Video. I can't remember if I had to configure it first or not - been using it for a long time.
If you can't see the Download Video option when you right click on a video, go to the preferences (right click anywhere on a web page that contains a video, but not on the video itself) and then to the Shortcut Menu tab. Select what you want to see in the contextual menu (in this case: Download Video) and you're done. Click anywhere outside the preference pane to exit.

ClickToPlugin & ClickToFlash Safari extensions

I like every other method described here better than mine. :) Maybe I should go grab an extension.

Hmm...neither do I anymore. It should be on the Youtube page below the video.
