ibook G3 500mhz - no desktop

I am a newbie to mac. Trying to make the switch. Just got this used yesterday and I messed it up I thinnk by adding a user with a number (bj1) the computer froze for a while and then i restarted. When it starts up it looks okay. Meaning I get the loading splash screen with the progress bar. after that it shows the default wallpaper and the mouse. Thats it. No icons no dock no taskbar no nothing. when i hit the power buttton i get the shutdown menu thats it. I am running mac os x 10.2.* dont know the rest. Any help will greatly be appreciated thanks.

I don't think the number in the name has anything to do with it.

You said you added a user, which means you were logged in as someone else when you did it.

Can you log in as that user again and tell us what happens? If the new user profile became corrupt, you can go in as that other user and create a new one.
