Hi really easy question I'm sure

but

I want to connect my guitar to my 13" macbook pro I know I can do it through the headphones port but I what to play the sound through my amp
what do I use as the line out?

the 13" MBP has a combined Audio In/Out. It can only be used one way at a time. You need a USB sound card to do what you are after.

I am sure someone else here will give you some suggestions.
