new usb cord?

i bought an imac last year.
i have an old usb cord.
when i try to connect a digitech rp155 pedal to my imac using this cord, shouldnt i get an icon or something on the screen?
the pedal tells me i am connected.

does the imac need a different or updated usb cord for some reason?

The cord should be fine...have you actually tried using the pedal?

the pedal works fine.
if i remember right, i had to get other new cords to connect devices because the imac has 9(?) pins instead of 7(?).
am i mistaken or could this be the problem?
