Have you tried connecting the printer direct to your iMac via USB, get it working that way first, and then setup the wireless connection? I don't understand why you have connected the printer to the router?

It would also help if you listed the model of your printer and some with a fax use an ethernet connection for networking.

Ok according to that model no. you have the ability to use the internal bg/n wireless,
USB or 10/100 ethernet if you hook up the ethernet to your router everyone in your LAN should see and be able to use it. If you use the internal wi-fi same thing should happen but with a shorter range if set up correctly. I would only use the USB for initial hook up to the Mac then after all the drivers are updated along with any firmware then choose which wireless fits your needs. Personally I will use ethernet when available.
