I came across a MBP that with disabled USBs. Tried the usual resets I found via search. Nothing. I think they are fried and so that would mean a logic board swap. $$$.

What about using an external hub with USB and FireWire inputs and a FireWire output that connects to the still working FireWire port? So any USB peripherals would plug into the external hub which itself would be wall-wart powered for the USB 5V supply.

I understand that you cannot replace the USBs so I thought this could provide some functionality to the owner of that laptop for now.

What do you think?

All of those FW/USB hubs I've seen still require that you connect both, a firewire and a USB cable, to the computer.

USB and firewire are inherently not compatible.
