Have you installed any new ram recently?

Kernel Panics the majority of the time are caused by incompatible or defective hardware. Usually it is due to incompatible or defective ram (that's why I asked about the ram). But any incompatible or defective hardware can cause kernel panics.

This "SxS" card is apparently not compatible with the Macintosh hardware or the version of the Mac OS you're running. The proof of this is that you get a kernel panic every time you install it.

If someone keeps poking you in the eye with a sharp stick (and it hurts)...you would want them to stop!;) Same thing with this "SxS" card...don't install it if you keep getting kernel panics.

According to this you may need to install the updated driver software for it to work properly. I know there's information from July about older MBPs and 10.6.8 and then an update for Lion, but hopefully, the latest update will address the 10.6.8 issue as well.

Thanks for mentioning that "EvenStranger"!:) I meant to mention that in my post above...that looking for an updated driver for the "SxS" card may solve the kernel panic problems.

Thanks all. Nick - the thing is made to accept sxs cards, my whole industry is doing it. Regarding a driver, a driver from whom and for what. Is this a apple OS thing,or the company that makes the sxs

The driver is provided by the manufacturer of the device, in this case Sony, and is available at the link I posted above.

slips right in, no interface at all, there's a slot on the side

What does it specifically "slip into"? I'm very familiar with Mac Pro's...and I don't know or understand what port or slot you're talking about.

There must be a special expansion card or something installed inside your Mac Pro...or some sort of external card reader.

Sorry...I got confused what computer you had. I understand not that you had a Mac laptop with an Express-34 card slot.

It's a MacBook Pro, Nick... just a slight confusion with nomenclature.

Sorry...I got confused with what computer model we were talking about. My 17" MacBook Pro has the same thing/slot.
