Data Doubler

OK, I'm thinking of upgrading my 15" MBP with the Data Doubler from OWC, and I have some questions:

1. I've heard that there is an issue with having a HDD in the optical bay vs an SSD; is that true? I really don't want to fork out the money for an SSD if I don't have to.

2. I was going to get the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB HDD and use that in the HDD bay, and put a Seagate Momentus 750GB HDD in the optical bay, but now I wonder whether that's a good idea. I just heard about the Samsung Spinpoint M8 1TB, which 9.5mm versus 12.5mm for the WD. How about putting that in the optical bay and put the Momentus in the HDD bay?

Whichever drive you decide to place in the original HDD bay should be 2.5" wide and no more than 9.5 MM thick. I'm not sure about the dimensions for the optical bay, but I would stick with the same dimensions to play it safe and allow for better cooling.

As for an SSD, I would place that in the original HDD bay and boot from it.

Yeah; been doing some reading since I posted; definitely going to stick with 9.5MM; still, I don't want to go SSD at this point; too expensive!

What do you think about using two 9.5MM 1.0TB HDD's?

There shouldn't be any problem whatsoever doing that. Just be sure to boot from the one in the original HDD bay.
