Will this only be available on new iMacs or will we all get a go - I mean the G5 I have bought in August appears to be not much different to the new on especially when you think Frontrow is just a piece of software.

I don't think so. First off it seems like the remote is required for it to work and apple made no mentions of selling the remote. Secondly we don't know how the remote connects, it could be bluetooth which would allow for other systems to be included, but it might just have its own dedicated receiver in the computer

The remote is on the Apple Store online for $39.99 but looks like it controls the ipod with the universal dock for the ipods.

yea so I am guessing the iMacs have a built in IR receiver which is why they only talk about frontrow with the iMac

I thought it was a bluetooth remote - it has a range of 10 feet - the standard bluetooth range.

Apple quotes the range of the remote with the iMac as 30ft which means it's definitely not IR, it's BT. I bet that FrontRow does become available to all, maybe as software that comes with purchasing the remote.

On the UK site the remote is now available for £19 and works with iPod and Mac. It says that with the Mac it can be used to operate Frontrow etc. However it says that the box comes with the remote, battery and user guide - no sign of software.

Just spoken to a Mac support agent on the Apple site - Frontrow will not work on older iMacs as the firmware is different apparently.
