Windows 8 has no internet

Hi, so I recently decided to go ahead and grab the latest Windows 8 Developer version and installed it in a virtual box on my Macbook air running Lion. (I tried several times to create a boot-able flash drive but to no avail, so if there's any advice for that it would be appreciated, too.) Anyways, I got it working after following some tutorials but can not figure out how to get the internet working! I tried going to settings and setting up internet, but it said my computer was not capable of using wifi - only DSL. I can connect fine in Mac, though. Why won't Windows 8 connect? I know it is only a developer's version, but I'm sure that the internet should be working... Thanks in advance for any help!

I could be possible that the Virtual Box just isn't capable of supporting Windows 8 yet.

It does support Windows 8 (using it here that way) but the default NIC card isn't supported. Right click the VM > Settings > Network > Advanced > change the "Adapter Type." To save you some time, I know for a fact that "Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop" works like a charm.

I was about to PM van and alert him to this post since we talked the night he had 8 running in a VM on his Macbook.

So this is in Virtual Box that you select the Intel Pro driver? I might install it tonight.

Ok, so I went to change the adapter type and it says it is manually configured. I then clicked the only item in the list above and went to the adapter settings tab. It looked like this:


What's wrong? Is my virtual box different?

Oh! Sorry, didn't realize I should have gone to the machine settings... Works great now! Thanks for the advice

Yep. VB can emulate 6 different NICs and the one that it defaults to for VMs (at least Windows ones) doesn't work with Win8...yet.
