I just got apple tv I know I can streem stuff from itunes that work's fine my ipod touch I can't streem the software on my ipod touch is 4.2.1 and it should have airplay ?

Your iPod needs to be on the same network as your ATV.
From the ATV2 menu goto settings>Airplay and turn it on and now when you play a video/music on your iPod there should be a solid triangle with a rectangle sitting on it and this is where you choose where/how to watch/listen to your movie/music.
