Hey I have just learned the screenshot button combination on my MacBook Pro but i notice that every time i take a screenshot it has a shutter sound that happens. Is there anyway to make it so there is no sound when you take a screenshot?

What about hitting the mute button just before you take the screen shot?

If you use Grab, you can disable the sound in the preferences. I don't know if this carries over into the keyboard shortcut though (I'd test it but I'm currently in a library).

As a temporary measure, you can disable all interface sound effects (for example, this includes sounds made when you interact with the Trash) by going to System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects and unchecking "Play user interface sound effects."

The sound file that is played when you take the screenshot is somewhere on your Mac. I say "somewhere" because it seems to have moved with Lion. If I find it, I'll let you know.

I found here (In Lion) it via EasyFind :)

Ah, excellent. It was the following pre-Lion:
Code:
/System/Library/Components/CoreAudio.component/Contents/SystemSounds/system/Grab.aif

Huh, Pre-Lion is just one folder different from Lion… strange change.

Yeah, I don't understand the change myself. I'm not sure why they moved the sounds into a "SharedSupport" folder.

@Scott20054: Try moving (but not deleting) that file to the Desktop and then take a screenshot. If the sound doesn't occur, you'll know you found the file.
