Just got a macbook pro and was curious if I need to purchase virus software. I have heard mixed reviews whether you need it or not.

If you are paranoid about this coming from Windows, then consider ClamXAV2 antivirus which is freeware. Most of us here do not use any AV software as there are no Mac OS X viruses and few malware threats.

Having said that if you are going to use BootCamp, on the Windows partition run Microsoft Security Essentials, another free program. As fireside dog says, do not buy AV software.
