Mac Mail is No Longer Working

I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on a MacBook from 2007, and I'm running Mail 2.1.3. I plan on getting a new MacBook Pro when I get some money, but for now I have to keep this machine running as long as I can. So, I need to get Mail working.

When I start Mac Mail, it says:

---------------------------------------------------------------
The application Mail has quit unexpectedly.

Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.

Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.
---------------------------------------------------------------

I reported the problem several times, but I'm wondering if Apple is no longer supporting such an old version of Mail. After I send the report or click close, Mail stays open and most of the time causes the system to run at almost full capacity.

Here is some of what I get in the report. The Forum won't let me paste the whole thing -- it's too big. Something happened with "Thread 9," whatever that is.

First reaction is "are you trying to open, or is Mail trying to load, or have you downloaded, a graphic-intensive email?" Embedded graphics - as opposed to attached ones - can cause an email application to crash.

Since you're in 'holding the fort meantime' mode, would you consider using an alternative to Apple Mail, eg. Thunderbird, or Eudora?

Third - have you done all the updates to Tiger? I can't recall what the last Mail version is/was with that OS.

I checked for Tiger updates. Everything is up to date. I guess I have the last version of Mail for Tiger.

I click the Mail icon on the Dock, and Mail starts. I think it is checking for mail, and then says that the application crashes. The thing is spinning next to the Hotmail account. I quickly disabled Hotmail when I first started Mail, and then I put a _ after the Hotmail pop address to keep it from checking for new mail. Mail seems to be running ok for now. I guess Hotmail is not working and making my Mail Application crash.

I have to figure out what the problem is.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Next suggestion is to go to your Hotmail Inbox via a browser (webmail) and examine each and every email that remains there. Anything that looks like it's graphic-intensive, or is bloated in some way, or is from a non-recognised or non-trusted source, delete it at/from the server. Then try Apple Mail again.

PS. for a while I was signed up to a website for motorcycle parts. The admin of that site sent emails with lots of embedded graphics designed for IExplorer, and it crashed my email program (Eudora) almost without exception - it crashed Mail as well (bad script)! Despite my requests to be removed from the mailing list, the problem continued. Fortunately I've since changed ISP, and the m'cycle emails are going to a dead-end.

The Hotmail account is kinda the default "enter you email address here" email account, though I do get some legit email there. So, I just deleted everything. There are no more emails in that account. I started Mail and reconfigures the Hotmail account, and everything works now. Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
