My macbook pro seems to be taking a little longer to start up lately. Im just wondering what programs there are to maybe tidy it up. Like you used to defrag a windows laptop etc...

What programs or processes are starting when you boot? Usually, a longer startup means more things are going on when the machine boots. Check your Login items in System Preferences, Accounts, and also the startup folders listed under the user library and root library.
