I am probably gearing towards buying a new 15" Mac Book pro...I've just stumbled across the display options.

What's the detail and benefits for going for the higher resolution screen?

It really depends on what you intend to use the machine for. The higher resolution display is fantastic as it gives you more pixels per screen size than the normal display. Great if you're a graphic designer or do like work.

The downside to the higher resolution screen is that everything will appear smaller. So if you have vision issues...the higher resolution display may be harder to read sometimes.

But the plus (as chscag mentioned) is you can display/see more "stuff" on the 15" display.:)

Thanks guys, I will probably stick with the standard screen for a variety of reasons after reading up on it.
