So my macbook fell on the floor, it doesn't seem to work.
Yesterday it was making some glitchy sounds..
Now the startup leads me to a white screen with a folder and a question mark.
Is it completely dead?

Not necessarily. The folder with a question mark means that it cannot find a valid system folder on the hard drive. This could be something as simple as needing minor directory repair or it could mean the drive is failing. Here's what I would do:

1. Find your OS CD/DVD and boot from it. Run Disk Utility to verify/repair the drive and repair disk permissions.

2. It might also be worth checking the connections on the drive to make sure those are still tight.

Agreed with Sly. Sounds like the hard drive was damaged by the fall or came loose.
