Hello,

I have a macbook pro 15 from 2009, and the screen is broken. However, I use an external 26 inch Samson monitor. For what ever reason it won't display on the monitor anymore. I was wondering if there is a way to detect displays with a keyboard shortcut? Or maybe from the monitor itself?

Is the screen physically broken or not working if the latter there could be underlying
problems in your video card/ motherboard ?

The screen is cracked. It lights up, but doesn't work. I've been using the external monitor for two years now without problems.

No keyboard shortcut that I know of and not from the monitor either. If you've been running the external Samsung monitor for two years and it suddenly quit, it may be the adapter or cable that's at fault. Check those first.

Also, I'm assuming you're aware that an external monitor will not work if your MBP is on battery. It must be on AC. So it might also be a good idea to check your MagSafe Charger unit.

I'll give it a shot thanks.
