Hi all,
i need some help with my G4 867 (Quicksilver)... I am running Tiger on an 80gb hard disk for the OS. I have just bought a 250gb hard disk to add internally (IDE) but it is only recognising the new disk as 128gb. I've tried different options in the partition utility but it always reverts back to 128gb.

Does any know how to make it see the whole disk or do i have to purchase an external firwire case?????

Please Help????

Thanks all!!!!!

Unfortunately, all PowerMac G4 except the MDD have a limit of 128GB per HD (you can hook up two 250GB drives, the PowerMac will only recognise 128GB for each HD). The only way to use all the capacity of your disk is by either buying an external enclosure, as you already mentioned, or buying a PCI IDE controller, which will allow you to use the whole disk.

There's no other choice...

I believe that you can partition the drives.

I think though that the sum of the partitions won't exceed 128GB, as the controller simply can't recognise more than that per drive...
I'm not totally sure though about it.

the sum can't exceed 128GBs.

However, there was a 3rd party driver that worked for me to recognize a drive larger than that...man, I forget what it was called tho. Anybody else know of this?

How do you like that driver? Have you had any issues with using it on a boot drive or when booting from a Installation disc? I'm simply asking because as IDE drive prices drop (CompUSA had 250Gb Maxtors for $80 yesterday) I may choose to upgrade my 120Gb boot drive to something bigger.

It's worked perfectly fine for me, and I use it as the boot drive. I havn't had to boot from the installation disk, but I have never had any problems with it. That site has a tremendous support forum, and if you have any questions, or problems, they will reply very quickly. If I recall, I had a little trouble installing it, but it was my problem (I had done things in the wrong order), but they straightened me out. Otherwise, not a single problem with it.
