Good morning,

I have an extensive library of music (500 GB). Most files are mp3 for portability with backups in a lossless format. In my PC incarnation, I used adobe audition to trim dead air from beginnings and endings of songs and used it to split songs. I'm looking for a similar tool for my mbp. I also used audition to "see" the sound wave (so I could view brick walling, etc.).

Anyone have any recommendations to help me complete my Apple conversion?

Thanks

AudioEase makes a piece of software called Barbabatch that has one of the finest audio dithering systems around. It also happens to be pretty inexpensive considering it's for pro use.

Beyond that, and although you wouldn't actually be able to "see" the waveforms, you can use iTunes to trim the audio and create whatever file format you wish.

Btw, just because Apple says it's a "lossless" codec doesn't actually mean it's the same quality file. The only way to retain full CD resolution in the digital space is to import everything in AIFF format.

I suggest you check out either Audacity or Amadeus Pro. Audacity is free but Amadeus Pro is not though you can try it without paying. Both programs will show the waveform so you can look for problems. Personally I prefer the interface for Amadeus.
