Ipod Sync

Not sure if this is the correct place for this or not, but if isn't , please move it MOD, and my apologies. I have a simple question, how do I stop the "automatic" sync when I plug up my ipod touch? Before I created an Itunes account, it would ask if I wanted to sync or not, now it automatically does it, is there any way I can stop this? If so, how do I go about doing it? I am still pretty ignorant to all this apple mumbojumbo so a step-by-step would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks
