I have been through the dreadful experience of getting a broken piece of the jack stuck in my macbook and having no sound whats so ever, and difficulties getting the jack out.
HOWEVER i have found a solution to disable the MacBooks headphone output and enable the internal speakers with the piece still stuck inside the headphone port.
