I currently use a 13" Macbook (2007 Generation)

Mac OS X 10.6.8
Processor 2.2 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Hard drive Capacity 119.69 GB
Available 11.42 GB

At this point the computer has become almost unusable...Any function I try to perform gives me the spinning wheel or application crash. Just changing tabs in Firefox kills the system

I only really use Firefox, iPhoto and iTunes.

Should I give in and just update to newer machine or is there something I can do to salvage this machine?

It was great that you included the statistics for your hard drive. With a capacity of 119gig...and 11.4gig free...that's basically 90% full. I'm thinking it's time to:

- upgrade to a larger hard drive
- backup some of that stuff onto an external hard drive (and then delete that stuff from your MacBook's HD)
- or just get rid of the unnecessary "junk" from your HD to free up a bunch of space.

HTH,

- Nick

p.s. After doing this I would also repair permissions.

Cleared it up... Little better performance but nothing crazy. Any other suggestions?

Any other suggestions?

Install a larger faster hard drive and max out the system memory to 2 GB.

You didn't tell us what you did already...so it's hard to suggest more options. Some ideas were suggested earlier...but we don't what you did & didn't do.

Previously you told us that you have a 120gig HD...with 11.42 gig free. It would be great to know how much free space you have now.
