Okay, so I was having a problem with the most recent driver update on a partition with Vista upon it. So I rolled it back an update, and the sound appeared to be working.

However, it only appears to be working in the bottom right of the screen, where the sound icon no longer has a small red circle with a white cross within it, beside it.

A red light is also being emitted from the headphone jack, which I understand to be something to do with the Mac thinking there are headphones inserted. But, I cannot hear sound even with headphones!

Any help would be great, thanks!

Check your sound settings via the Control Panel to make sure the correct output is selected. Also, I've heard of people just taking a pair of headphones, plugging them in, and wiggling it a bit. Not hard or anything, but just enough to get the switch that detects headphones unstuck.

I've looked for your problem, and apparently this is sometimes the cause.

If neither of these things remedy the situation, let us know!
