White Macbook 13" randomly powering up

Help!! my white macbook 13" has just started to randomly power on. When it was last used it was completely powered down/turned off (not sleeping), however a couple of hours later it just randomly powered up and now I cannot use the trackpad or keyboard to log on or shut down again. The only thing I can do is to use the power button, but it then restarts itself after a few minutes.

Any Idea whats going on here and what I can do to sort the problem?

Try resetting the SMC.

Sorry for putting my nose in, but how many time do I rest a normal macbook SMC, once a month, year or 3 years

Whenever you have power issues would probably be a good place to start.
