did a Time Machine restore of my entire stuff, and found that I cannot rearrange/change a location of a folder icon by dragging it to a new location on my desktop.

Yet my icons aren't locked, so what do I do to make them "draggable and relocatable" so I can sort thru the clump of icons in the extreme upper right corner of my desktop (due to too many folders and not enough screen space on my 15" MBP), start burning DVD's and unclutter my desktop?

Thanks in advance.

If you right-click (ctrl-click) your desktop background, there should be a sort-by option in the context menu. Make sure that is set to "none".

I tried this but there is no such "sort by...none" in this menu. When I R-click my desktop background, I only get a:

New Folder,
New Burn Folder,
Get Info,
Change Desktop Background...,
Keep Arranged By >, name, date modified, date created, size, kind, label,
Show View Options,
More,

If I click on "more", I get:

Automator > Create Workflow...,
Send Desktop to Bluetooth Device,
Disable Folder Actions,
Configure Folder Actions,
Attach a Folder Action,

What gives???

Found this option "arrange by none", and it worked!

Thanks, old buddy!
