I have a G5 PPC IMAC that i'm looking to sell. The erase function on the disk utility does not "light up" when attempt to start to erase the HD. It will, however, "light up" when I click on external drive. Do I need to unlock something before the utility recognizes the hard drive? Appreciate any help. thanks.

To erase the drive, you have to boot from your system install disc. A drive cannot erase when booted from itself. Pop in the system disk, re boot and hold down 'C' immediately after the chime, go into Utilities and select Disk Utility and Erase from there. Of course you do have the original or current system discs?
