I'm seeing more and more of the "Spinning Pinwheel," even when I just go from one URL to another. I've run Sophos which found no problems or cookies. I don't even have that much ON the laptop; I have only 40GB on its 250GB hard drive. I'll appreciate any suggestions on why this is happening and if I can alleviate it at all. TIA.

- How many apps. (normally) do you have open at the same time?
- How much ram does your computer have?
- How often (days, weeks, months) do you go between rebooting your computer?
- When was the last time you repaired permissions?

Depending on your answers...any one, a combination, or all of the above could be causing the issue you mentioned.

- I never have more than two apps or two browsers open at the same time. I have 4GB of RAM. I boot it up every morning, power down every night. I've never repaired permissions; don't even know how to do that. Thanks.

Sounds like 3 out of 4 things I mentioned are ok. As far as repairing permissions:

- Open Applications folder
- Open Utilities Folder
- Launch "Disk Utility"
- select your HD from the list on the left of the Disk Utility window
- Click on "Repair Permissions"

I did that; thanks. It did give me a "Warning: SUID File "System/Library/Core, etc.... has been modified and will not be repaired." Is that bad?

Sorry to jump in, but I had a question. The answer to a lot of the questions on here is to "repair permissions". I have never done that before, and I was just wondering what it does, and it its safe to do.

I've done it hundreds of times...and as a "Staff member" at Mac-Forums...why would I recommend something that was unsafe???;)

As far as what it does...think of it as a way of certain "permissions" files getting coded. This "coding" gets "mixed up"...and "repairing permissions" simply "recodes" things to the way they should be.

And if the SUIDs worry you that much, select the 'Show Details' button.

I found an Apple site that says not to worry about the SUID statement and some others.
