failure to use the installer

There is a pkg file I try to open with the installer (a newer version of Safari), but when I try to do that the computer does some 'thinking' and then nothing more. What can I do about it? Help is much appreciated.

Can you provide any more information? Using the Software Update in the Apple menu will download the latest Safari for you.
