get a external Enclosure for your old hard drive.

Connect your old drive to USB or Firewire port

After clean install OS X use "Migration Assistant " to restore your old files and app to new hard drive.

It's needed 'coz you have to connect your old drive to MBP via USB. Your old drive can not connect directly to USB port. it can't transfer without any connection ;D

Migration Assistant only allow you to restore from :
- Another mac in Network
- From time machine back up
- Other disk

don't worry It's not expensive and you can use your old drive as external drive. check out this link Links

Easier than an enclosure is a universal adapter - link.

And then once you take your data off the old hard drive, you can use it to store other stuff. Extra hard drives are always handy to have around!
