Secondary monitor with busted primary

HELP!

My mac air has the white screen of death and of course when i took it to the apple store, it will cost 750 bucks to repair.....

i just want some photos off of it, so i purchased the cables to connect it to my hdtv....

when i powered everything on, i have a perfect screen on my tv, however, all
options are on the primary screen that i cant see!

i've tried the F7 key and all kinds of other posted ideas, but simply cant get anything on my secondary monitor!

i basically need the primary screen on my secondary monitor...or mirror it over or something....i know its possible....i just watched the tech a the apple store do it.....

so thats it....any ideas!?

Close the clamshell on the MBA, reboot, and see if you get a full display on the external monitor. In other words, operate the MBA in clamshell mode.
