Upload to the web - where? what site?

What folder is greyed out?

Might as well list your version of OS X and Safari.

Can you post a screenshot of the browser when you try to select the folder?

Are you using an administrator account? I can't really think of any reason why you can't upload anything in all of your browsers.

With Van on this one.
Try making a new Admin Account and log into it. Then try and upload photos from that account. If you can then you have a corrupt ??something?? in there.

OP, do you see the Edit button in your post? If no one has responded, you can add to your post rather than make a new one.

How's that new admin account working for ya?

Glad it all worked out.

Do you have a backup ?? If so you can use that with the App Migration Assistant (applications/utilities/migration assistant) and migrate the old account.
There is a way i think with moving your Home folder ??? BUT DONT DO THAT until someone comes in with the correct steps for you, or you could end up doing a complete re-install of the OS. So i don't want to steer you wrong.
But if you have a back up use MA then check if everything is working in the new account before deleting the old . . .
At least you can keep uploading now.

Cheers
