so i have been trying to install a solid state drive in my 2006 macbook and the macbook wont read them the question mark folder shows up. i have tried to do the thing where you hold down option but it shows nothing i have tried to hold option with the os disk in and i try to install it it asks where and there is no drive to select. im thinking it might be the cable that you connect the drive to but i wanted to see if it could be anything else. anybody have any idea what it could be?

Welcome to the Mac Forums.

Could be two reasons for the drive not being recognized.

1. Either one of the two rubber EMI protectors have fell out of place in the drive cavity. Now the drive can not line up to its connector. Check to make sure they're in place.

2. The SATA cable is defective which goes from the drive connector to the logic board.

The above assumes the SSD is OK.
