I'm having trouble getting my HP f4480 deskjet to scan. Prints fine but attempts to scan result in error message= "sorry, an unknown error has occurred" after the scan starts.
My iMac is a one year old 21.5 running OS X 10.6.8

Uninstalling hp software and re-installing did not help nor did any of the suggestions from hp support.
I recall once before having a problem with this all-in-one unit that was solved by removing hp software and using OS X to run it. This time that was not the solution.

Your help will be appreciated.

Try VueScan instead. It works with just about any scanner.

Vuescan is a great app.

If you've been using the HP scan software, try Image Capture and see if that will work also.
