What is using up all my CPU speed?

I opened activity monitor and discovered that my CPU is running at 100% capacity all the time... what gives? It's on better performance power settings so the processor is at max speed all the time (I think) and the biggest task was activity monitor itself.... 74% system...26% user... 0% idle.... what gives?

Restart. If it still does it, then you have a problem.

Restarted and it's the same. It's really weird because my computer runs just fine.

Try opening the Terminal and running

top -u

What do you see if you look at All Processes instead of My Processes?

I checked all programs, and something called VShieldCheck is sucking up TONS of CPU.... anybody heard of this before?


Also, spotlight can't find anything called VShieldCheck

VShieldCheck is part of Virex.

Thanks, Problem solved, it was a part of Virex. I just got rid of virex, it was a POS basic software I downloaded from My school. All it did was scan files for viruses. I am still wondering how Virex managed to use up 75% of my CPU speed though. It just seems weird.
