Hello there,

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro and I would like to purchase a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter in order to hook it up with my Samsung screen.

There are two products on Apple's webpage but I don't know which one to choose:

Griffin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI with Audio + DVI - Apple Store (U.S.)

Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support - Apple Store (U.S.)

Griffin's has both HDMI and DVI so it is pretty interesting, it's like two in one. However, I've heard, from comments, that it doesn't support audio unless your computer is past April 2010. I would like to know more about that. I don't know how to find out my MBP's exact production date, and I would like to know if it does have a built-in audio transmitter so I can use Griffin's product with it. If not, I guess I'll stick to Moshi's.

Thank you very much.

p.s: if you know any better ones, please recommend.

I found a website that tells you information about your Mac by entering its serial number and this is what I got:

Serial number: **********
Name: MacBook Pro (Mid 2010)
Model: mbp_15_mid_10
Group1: MacBook
Group2: Pro
Generation: 62
ModelCode: mbp_15_mid_10
Machine Model: MacBookPro6,2
Model introduced: 2010
Production year: 2010
Production week: 26 (July)
Production number: 4181 (within this week)
introduced test: GOED
CPU speed: 2.4GHz
Family name: Become a pro user to see this information. (sorry)
Screen size: 15 inch
Screen resolution: 1440x900 pixels
Colour: Aluminium

It says July 2010. Does that mean it has a built-in audio transmitter and the Griffin display adapter will work just fine?

Thank you very much, mate.

The price is amazing, $19 USD.

NewerTech NWTCBLMDPHDMI Mini DisplayPort to HDMI... in stock at OWC

However, money and shipping aren't much of an issue right now. So should I buy this or would the Griffin or the Moshi one be better? I'm looking for something that's good quality and long lasting because they aren't sold here, or are at least double and sometimes triple their price. Egypt isn't the place to be if you want Apple products, I can tell you that.

Better??? With digital, if it works, it works.

I believe cwa107 has the Newertech from OWC and has recommended it.

I just bought a $5 adapter from Amazon, but haven't tried it yet.

Reckon the Griffin one would be nice "if" you also need a DVI connection.

Well, I'm probably not going to need the DVI adapter as I only have one screen that needs it, but I thought it would be a nice addition for any possible future use. I think I am going to go for the Newertech from OWC, then, it's even cheaper which is good.

Thank you, bob, appreciate it.
