The key is Core2Duo. If your machine had a Core Duo without the 2, then Lion would not install.

not that i plan on doing it soon, i wonder if lion can be made to run on a core duo kinda like leopard was able to run on a powerbook not meeting the minimum specs with a few mods. I am perfectally happy with snow leopard.

What OS is on it now? You will need 10.6.7(I think - ie: 10.6.6 won't work) to access the App Store if you want to download Lion.

Did you ever get lion installed? If so, how is it working?

I also have a late 2006 model computer currently running 10.6.8. It is a core2duo and has 2 GB RAM. I know I meet the minimum requirements to install Lion, but I'm wondering if it would be too much for my old machine.

I'm content with snow leopard, but I may add lion to my Xmas list if there isn't a decrease in performance.

You may want to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM. If it's compatible with the RAM on the 2010 MBP, I can sell you 4 GB for about 30 bucks. Sometimes when something just meets the requirements, you may experience a slow down. Maybe not too noticeable. But it will probably be there.

I've already maxed out my computer's compatibility with 2 GB of RAM. That's my concern.

If upgrading the RAM was an option I'd do it in a heartbeat.
