I am sick and tired of not having any service during the day on AT&T and I don't want to wait for the new iPhone to switch. So I was thinking of unlocking my phone and temporarily moving over to T-Mobile by using their $50/mo unlimited prepaid plan.

If anyone has done this, or something similar and can offer their advice or just comment on your experience, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Lots of folks on T-Mobile are using unlocked iPhones. The results are good as long as you're satisfied with EDGE only. The 3G and 4G frequencies that T-Mobile uses are not compatible with the iPhone. Now whether or not that changes when the buying of T-Mobile by Ma Bell is finalized, no one knows.

EDGE would be fine with me as long as it's temporary.

Hopefully filing/cutting down the SIM isn't too difficult to make it work with my iP4.

Yea I saw that and it peaked my interest. There have been general complaints that their 4G service is barely faster than AT&T's 3G, especially in my city. But then again, their pricing is better and they have unlimited data (for now).

My game plan is to just dump AT&T now and go prepaid on T-Mobile until the next phone comes out and I can evaluate options then.

It'll be nice to have more choices!

Again, keep in mind that T-Mobile is being bought up by AT&T. My bet is that you can kiss those nice rates goodbye when that happens. And it looks like it's going to happen by 2012 or sooner.

As for Sprint... I wouldn't give them a nickel of my money. They had and possibly still have the worst customer service that I have ever experienced from any phone carrier. I'm currently with T-Mobile (no iPhone) because of their low rates and good customer service.
